2012 CAMS Sports Racer Series
Sports Racers are an exciting new national motorsport series in Australia launched at Clipsal, Adelaide 2010 with six national rounds planned for 2012. The Sports Racer Series is one of the most affordable categories, with prices for a new race cars ranging from $65K - $120K depending on make and class, with second hand cars available from $50k - $80k. The typical running costs are extremely low, with an owner maintained car race budget of less than $2k per round including tyres and excluding entry fees, travel etc.
The new CAMS 2012 Group 6 SR technical regulations were released December 2011 with the 2012 Sporting Regulations to be released soon.
With spiritual links to the hugely popular sports car racing scene of the 70's and 80's, these LeMans prototype style sports cars offer scintillating performance, amazing dynamics and spectacularly close racing. All cars are designed to maximise aerodynamic performance, weigh around 400kg with ultra reliable control production engines developing up to 195hp.
Powered by high tech production based motorcycle engines revving to 13,000rpm and lapping circuits at V8 Supercar times, these rockets are going to grab your attention, both from behind the wheel and in the grandstands.
With several manufacturers represented from both Australia and overseas, Sports Racers are an affordable and accessible motorsport category for young guns, gentleman racers and all those in between.
The 2011 series was an exciting year for all involved, and with over 10 new cars on there way for 2012 series, the fields are growing exponentially for this fast and affordable series.

To run a professional, affordable and sustainable race series designed for recreational drivers, based on sound business principles, that ensures long term stability whilst maintaining a competitor focus and encouraging competitor input.
Sports Racer Australia’s aim is to provide an atmosphere that gives all competitors a high level of competitive satisfaction and enjoyment that promotes a desire to participate and attracts new competitors. Camaraderie both on and off the track will be a major part of the appeal of the category.
Sports Racer Australia will ensure that the series is not a development series based on budget, but based on car preparation and driver skill through peer reviewed sporting principles and will actively consult with its competitor and stakeholder base in regards to major decisions before taking action.
